Program Details

The before and after school programs are self-supporting and funded by registration fees. SBCSC provides an in-kind contribution through the provision of school facilities and administrative support.

  • Children are cared for in a safe and nurturing environment.
  • Staff are trained and certified in several areas of health and safety with ongoing training.
  • Children are treated with respect. Social and academic growth and development are encouraged and supported.
  • STEM activities, Spanish instruction and yoga are some of the exciting activities along with a reading initiative, arts and crafts and free play.

Bright Beginnings

A before school program available 6:30 a.m. - 7:30 a.m. at these locations for grades PreK-5:

  • Darden (for Darden, Clay K-8 (students grade K-5)
  • Harrison 
  • Hay (for Hay, Hamilton Traditional, Lincoln, and Monroe)
  • Kennedy
  • Marquette
  • Swanson Traditional

Students are transported to the child care site by parents and signed in then are transferred to their assigned school by bus if needed.

Parents/guardians may register for the program at 215 South Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. at the front desk with a $10 registration fee payable by money order until August 1. Late registration, after August 1, is $20 and may not allow for children to be enrolled in the programs until after Labor Day or if a waiting list exists when space becomes available. We will contact you about the appropriate start date (first day of school if prior to August 1 and pending space) and to answer any further questions. Once enrolled, payments will be for two week increments.

Bright Beginnings program will be closed on Two Hour School Delay Days as announced by SBCSC. Parents will transport their student to the child's school at the assigned start time on those days.

Kaleidoscope Club

After school program available 3-6 p.m. at the following locations for grades K-5:

  • Darden (for Darden and Tarkington)
  • Hay (for Hay, Marshall,  Lincoln, and Monroe)
  • Kennedy (for Kennedy, Coquillard,  Harrison, Warren and Wilson)
  • Marquette
  • McKinley
  • Swanson

Students are transported to the child care site from their assigned school via school transportation, and parents transport them home. Pick up is at 6 p.m. sharp.

To register, bring a $10 money order to the front desk at SBCSC offices 7:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at 215 S. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. and complete an application. Registrations received after August 1 are $20. Once enrolled, payments will be for two week increments payable by money order or check at the host school.

All registrations are first come, first served with priority given to those who attend the host school. Bus routes and seats are limited and registration after August 2 will not be guaranteed placement until after Labor Day or perhaps at all based on space.
