Communication Channels

Indiana winters are unpredictable. Have a plan for your child's care in case of a school delay or a school closing.

The SBCSC Directors of Transportation and Capital Projects work diligently to ensure that school closings and delays are made appropriately and in a timely manner.

Service building staff begin the snow removal process at 1:00 a.m. when there are over 2 inches of snow on the ground. Between 2:00 and 4:00 a.m. transportation staff perform road checks and makes sure that the school parking lots are or can be cleared in time for school. SBCSC works very closely with SB Police, St. Joseph County Police, Indiana State Police, the city and county road crews, monitor all weather channels and radar, and consults with other school districts when making the decision to delay or close schools.

Once it has been determined that school will need to be delayed or closed, the notification process begins around 5:30 a.m. Every effort is made to make the decision to delay or close as early as possible and when possible, the decision could be made the evening before if the weather forecast is positive for inclement weather.
