Focus 2018: Design for the Future

On December 18, 2017 the Board of School Trustees unanimously approved Focus 2018: Design For The Future, a plan that was introduced in early November 2017 to reorganize the school district. The plan was officially approved by the United States District Court on June 8, 2018.

Fifth-grade students moved back to elementary schools, creating a full-fledged middle school system for grades six through eight. High school grades remain unchanged.

Bell times changed, creating additional instruction time for elementary students, as well as streamlined transportation. A later start time for adolescent students was established, partly based on a large, broad and consistent body of brain research by many leading health organizations, including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

To more efficiently use under-utilized School Corporation buildings, the plan called for closing and repurposing some schools. Greene Intermediate, Brown Intermediate, Marshall Intermediate and Eggleston closed; Rise Up Academy relocated to the Perley building, Perley Fine Arts Academy merged with Nuner (now Nuner Fine Arts Academy), Clay Intermediate was re-purposed (now Clay International Academy), and as the most recent component, Hamilton Traditional School is being moved to the Marshall building (soon-to-be) Marshall Traditional School).
