2022

John Adams High School was honored with a 2021 College Success Award - Gold by GreatSchools.

Over the past two years, Citywide Classroom South Bend (SBCSC, City of South Bend, enFocus partnership) provided free or reduced internet to 4,200 students, 1,100 21st Century Scholars and 330 SBCSC employees. Our vision is to triple free city Wi-Fi over the next three years.

2021

Swanson Traditional School was named a 2021 National Blue Ribbon School by the United States Department of Education, one of six in Indiana. The award is given to schools based on their progress in closing achievement gaps or overall academic performance among student subgroups.

Adams High School named 2020 Purple Star school, the only school in St. Joseph County to earn this award. The Indiana Department of Education Purple Star school designation honors schools that have displayed a significant commitment to service members, veterans, students, and families connected to our nation’s military.

Four students at Hay Elementary School were awarded the grand prize in a national STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) competition titled “Creating Community During COVID,” sponsored by the Entertainment Software Association (ESA) Foundation. The winning Hay team was selected among thousands of nation-wide entries.

Edison Middle School Assisted Technology (CAT) Specialist Marilou VanderGriend was presented the Starfish Award on behalf of the PATINS Project, (Promoting Achievement through Technology Instruction), a state-wide technical assistance network that provides assistive technology, professional development, and technical support through the Indiana Departments of Education and Administration.

Dr. C. Todd Cummings, Superintendent of South Bend Community School Corporation, has been named one of 25 “Superintendents to Watch” nationally by the National Schools Public Relations Association (NSPRA) for “demonstrating dynamic, fast-paced leadership with strong communication at its core.”

South Bend’s Riley High School was named a “Distinguished School” by Project Lead the Way (PLTW) for two years in a row. PLTW is an Indianapolis based non-profit that offers students the opportunity to develop skills for “problem solving, critical and creative thinking, collaboration, and communication“ through a STEM based curriculum.

We are a local leader in closing the digital divide. We partner with City of South Bend and enFocus as Citywide Classroom South Bend to provide internet services and devices to local students and families in the City of South Bend to make sure they can continue to learn effectively. 2020

SBCSC partnered with City of South Bend and enFocus to launch Citywide Classroom South Bend. The purpose of this collaboration is to expand connectivity resources typically found in South Bend classrooms into the neighborhoods and homes of the students we serve.
SBCSC was lauded as a national model for virtual education with its innovative response to providing reliable internet service to the community: Good Morning America, TODAY Show, New York Times, Bloomberg, and CNN, among others.
A video project developed and produced by Riley High School Principal Shawn Henderson and Communications Associate Director and videographer George Jones IV was featured on The Wendy Williams Show on May 4. Wendy interviewed Principal Henderson during the live broadcast about the unique way he and members of the RHS community honored the Class of 2020.
