Generous gift will provide funding for more than 20 teachers’ wish lists for area classrooms

Christmas will come early for twenty two South Bend Community School Corporation teachers thanks to a $5,000 gift to the South Bend Education Foundation from Indiana Michigan Power (I&M).

“At Indiana Michigan Power, we believe education is the foundation to create a brighter future for the next generation to lead our communities. This is why we choose to partner with the South Bend Education Foundation to ensure local teachers have the resources they need,” said Mona Livingston, I&M Community Affairs manager. “Everyone at I&M is appreciative of all the hard work teachers, principals and everyone involved in a student’s day contributes to their education.”

South Bend Community School Corporation Superintendent Dr. Todd Cummings, together with Assistant Superintendent of Academics Brandon White and representatives from Indiana Michigan Power, surprised three teachers at Madison STEAM Academy in South Bend Thursday morning as they presented checks to each of them for their wish list items. Nineteen additional teachers at other South Bend schools also were surprised with checks on Thursday.

Multiple copies of books, portable document cameras, specialized drills for technology, supplemental lighting, and specialized headphones for students are just some of the items on teachers’ wish lists that will be purchased with I&M’s gift.

“We’re so thankful to Indiana Michigan Power for their donation. With twenty two teachers submitting wishes this year, the total was $5,138.02; we could not be more thrilled with the generosity of our partners at I&M. South Bend Community School students will be direct beneficiaries of these funds, and we are truly grateful,” said Kristin Nestler, Operations Manager for the South Bend Education Foundation.
