Deputy Superintendent

Dr. Stevens serves as the Deputy Superintendent of the South Bend Community School Corporation. She is a proficient school administrator with over 25 years of experience at the school and district levels of leadership. She brings a wealth of knowledge in multiple areas of Pre-K-12 education management. Her areas of expertise include public relations, business/community partnership development, human resource management,  curriculum and instruction, federal programs, budgeting, and strategic planning.

Dr. Stevens obtained her Bachelor of Art from Iowa State University, a Master of Science in Education from Purdue University and Ph.D from Indiana State University. She holds several educational licenses that include: Teaching, K-12 Building School Administration, Career and Technical Education Director and Superintendent.

Dr. Stevens has served as a teacher, principal, and district leader.  Her career in education started in the Gary Community School Corporation, where she was eventually promoted and served for 12 years in district leadership as the director of communications. She went on to work for the Drexel Foundation as Principal/Director of Thea Bowman Leadership 7-12 Academy, where she successfully implemented school improvement plans that resulted in the highest graduation rate in the city. Under her leadership, the school was awarded the prestigious Bronze Metal by U.S. News and World Reports for maintaining a 94% graduation and 85% college admission rate. Dr. Stevens joined the Elkhart Community Schools in 2016 as an Executive Principal and eventually the Assistant Superintendent of Student Services. She is credited with improving the district’s at-risk student programs that resulted in zero expulsions and district-wide training in Trauma Informed Care, Trust Based RElational Intervention, and Multi-Tiered Systems of Support.

Dr. Stevens joined the South Bend Community School Corporation in 2022 as the Assistant Superintendent of Operations before becoming the Deputy Superintendent. She focuses on creating interdepartmental collaborations and systems based on best educational practices to improve school operations and student outcomes.

She and her late husband, Barry Stevens, are proud parents of three children and two grandchildren.
