South Bend Community School Corporation Moves to New Administration Building
SOUTH BEND, Ind. — South Bend Community School Corporation has relocated its downtown headquarters from Doctor Martin Luther King Blvd. to the former Edythe J. Brown Intermediate School, marking an important step in the district's efforts to rightsize its operations.
The new administration building, located at 737 Beale St., is particularly significant for the district. Following the relocation, the City of South Bend will own the downtown facility.
The corporation has dedicated $2.3 million from the city’s administration building purchase to repurpose the former Brown Intermediate School. The strategic decision is anticipated to generate an annual savings of $1.8 million.
Dr. Todd Cummings, superintendent of South Bend Schools, expressed his optimism about the move, stating, "We are thrilled to fulfill another referendum promise by relocating the administration building to the former Brown Intermediate. We are dedicated to keeping our word and are excited to honor the community's request."
Moreover, the relocation to the Keller Park neighborhood on the northwest side of South Bend is anticipated to address previous parking challenges faced at the downtown administration building, ultimately improving accessibility for parents and community members seeking important information and services.
The relocation not only reflects the district’s commitment to operational efficiency but also pays tribute to the legacy of Edythe J. Brown, the esteemed namesake of the former Brown Intermediate School. Edythe Brown began her illustrious teaching career in South Bend in 1896, and her impact on education in the community continues to be revered.
To facilitate the transition, support staff will be available at the downtown administration building until the first week of August to assist individuals in locating the new facility on Beale Street.
