South Bend Schools Named One of Nation’s Best Communities for Music Education

The South Bend Community School Corporation (SBCSC) has been honored with the Best Communities for Music Education designation from The NAMM Foundation for its outstanding support and commitment to music education. Now in its 26th year, the Best Communities for Music Education designation recognizes school districts across the United States that demonstrate exceptional achievement in efforts to provide access to music education for all students.

SBCSC is one of only 935 school districts nationwide to earn this prestigious distinction in 2025. The designation celebrates the collaborative work of music teachers, administrators, students, families, and community leaders who make music education an essential component of a well-rounded academic experience.

To qualify for the Best Communities designation, South Bend Schools provided comprehensive data regarding funding, graduation requirements, music class participation, instructional time, facilities, support for the music program, and community music-making initiatives. All responses were verified by district officials and reviewed by the arts education research firm WolfBrown.
