Literacy Progress Highlighted at Muessel Elementary

Educators, volunteer tutors and community partners gathered outside the entrance of Muessel Elementary School to share encouraging updates on third-grade reading progress during a community press conference. Updated iREAD results showed measurable gains for students, offering a snapshot of how early literacy efforts across South Bend Community School Corporation are making a difference for children and families.

The discussion focused on the shared work behind that progress, including focused classroom instruction and tutoring support strengthened through community partnerships. Representatives from Tutor-ND and We Make Indiana joined educators in highlighting how consistent intervention and community involvement help students build strong reading skills—an outcome that supports long-term success both in school and beyond.
