Bilingual & Migrant Services

Depending on student needs, schools may offer:

• English Language Development (ELD) instruction
• Sheltered instruction with trained teachers supporting content learning while building English skills
• ESL support, including in-class support or small-group instructions

These services help students:

• Build English proficiency
• Understand classroom instruction
• Meet grade-level expectations
• Prepare for graduation and future opportunities

SBCSC offers English/Spanish Dual Language Immersion programs where students learn academic content in both languages.

DLI schools include:

• Edison K-8
• Harrison Elementary (Grades K-5)
• Navarre Middle School (Grades 6-8)

These programs support bilingualism, biliteracy, and academic success. Families interested in DLI should contact the school or the Bilingual Services Department.

Dual Language Immersion Programs

Eligible students and families may receive:

• Tutoring and academic support
• Support for earning credits and graduating on time, including Migrant Summer School
• Summer educational and enrichment programs
• College and career readiness support
• School supplies, learning materials, and technology
• Help connecting to health care and community resources

These services are provided at no cost and are designed to reduce learning interruptions caused by frequent moves.

Students may qualify for Migrant Education Program (MEP) services if:

• The family has moved within the last 36 months
• The move was for qualifying agricultural or fishing work
• The move affected the student’s schooling

Eligibility is determined through a short interview with trained migrant staff.
