Enrollment & School Choice

This section helps families understand how student enrollment works at South Bend Community School Corporation, including school boundaries, school choice options, and the steps needed to enroll a new or returning student.

Students are assigned a school based on their home address. Families may also apply for school choice options, depending on availability and program capacity. Families may choose from the following options:

• Neighborhood / Boundary Schools – Students are guaranteed a seat at their assigned school based on their home address. (School Locator)
• District-Wide Schools – Open to all SBCSC students, regardless of where they live. 
• Region-Wide Schools – Available to families within specific geographic regions of the district.
• Magnet Programs – Specialized programs offered at select schools. Some schools and programs have limited capacity and may be competitive.

Families are encouraged to list a second choice when applying. Please note that school choice selections may affect transportation eligibility.

Before starting enrollment, families should be prepared to provide:

• Birth certificate
• Proof of address
• Immunization Records

New students, returning students, and families applying to magnet programs should complete the online enrollment application. Current SBCSC students requesting a transfer to another school should submit their request through the Enrollment Portal, as transfer requests follow a separate process and may be subject to availability and program capacity.
