The Home Builders Association of St. Joseph Valley recently awarded Washington High School graduating senior, Joally Figuerora, the Skilled Trade Leadership Award.

The newly-created scholarship recognizes the “character and leadership of a high school student who intends to pursue a career in residential construction or services trade.”

Figuerora completed the two-year Construction Technology program through the South Bend Community School Corporation’s Career and Technical Education. She will receive $500 from the Home Builders Association and $1,000 from the Construction Technology advisory board to use on tools, equipment, or additional training.

Earlier this year, Figuerora received the Golden Hammer Award from the Construction Technology program; additionally, she maintained a 3.9 grade point average and completed 15 college credits from Ivy Tech. She also holds multiple certifications from the National Center for Construction Education and Research and the Home Builders Institute. Figueroa plans to pursue a career in the carpentry and electrical trades.
