Representatives from the South Bend Community School Corporation (SBCSC) will conduct four community meetings to familiarize parents and students with their new “Shared Rights and Responsibilities (SRR),” designed to provide positive, constructive classroom environments for all students and teachers. The SRR replaces what was formerly known as the corporation’s “Code of Conduct.”

The four meetings will be held:

  • Monday, August 9 at 6:00 p.m. at Martin’s Supermarket, 525 S. Mayflower Road;

  • Tuesday, August 10 at 6:00 p.m. at the Greater Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, 206 S. Falcon St.;

  • Wednesday, August 11 at 10:00 a.m. at the Brown Community Learning Center, 737 Beale St. (Masks are required inside the Brown Community Learning Center);

  • Wednesday, August 11 at 6:00 p.m. -- Virtual meeting via FaceBook Live.

This new set of expectations is more collaborative, culturally responsive, and less punitive than the previous Code of Conduct. The SRR focuses on the importance of not only correcting inappropriate behavior, but also repairing the harm caused by that behavior, and affirming expectations so that the school community can be strengthened.

Parents, students, and interested community members are encouraged to attend one of the meetings and learn more about the corporation’s Shared Rights and Responsibilities.
